Mutual Pining + Huddling for Warmth
oH GOD!!! screw it i’m just gonna write it cuz i cant resist the fruitss
A ski lift ride down the mountain had seemed like a good idea at the time, or rather it seemed like the more normal thing to do as tourists, but now she wasn’t so sure.
They were stuck.
What should have been a quick and uneventful yet scenic ride down the snowy slopes had suddenly come to a halt, leaving them hopeless in midair with nothing but a thin, metal hanging bench and a railing keeping them from crashing directly into the ground. Yuzu had simply huffed the impatience out of her system when the first ten or so minutes had passed, but now, it had been about half an hour and she seemed a lot less annoyed and a lot more giddy.
Or maybe she was nervous? Scared because of the height? Strange, Yuya was sure she wasn’t afraid of heights. In any case, he thought he could suggest something to remedy the situation.
“We can always just use one of my dragons to get us down from he—”
“No,” she snapped back. Her own harsh tone seemed to surprise her as well and she looked away in embarrassment, adding, “I mean, no… that’s fine, don’t bother… I don’t mind waiting here… with you.”
“Um, okay…” It’s not like Yuzu hadn’t ever confused him before in his life, but this time Yuya was having an even harder time trying to figure out her thoughts. What else could he do now, though? She still seemed nervous about staying up here for so long, and she was shaking a bit… “Yuzu…”
She’s shaking? Oh god, she’s cold!
“Ah! Yuzu! Why didn’t you say you were cold?! Here, take my jacket,” he blurted out, hurtling his jacket off his shoulders and over hers. She looked at him in surprise but accepted the gesture, hugging it over herself tightly. “There, I don’t want you catching a cold.”
“Thanks, Yuya,” Yuzu replied with a smile.
He could have sworn he felt his face heat up for a moment, but the smooth gusts of wind passing over them whipped that feeling clear. The next thing he knew he was rubbing away at his arms to try to induce some warmth back into himself.
“H-Hey, Yuzu… maybe we really should have one of our monsters carry us back down. I don’t know h-how much longer—”
He didn’t dare finish his plea the moment he felt Yuzu hurl half of Yuya’s jacket back over him, leaning her body close against his to make the reach. She leaned in further, laying her head on his collarbone, where his chin dared to find itself resting gently on her pink hair so naturally.
“There,” she sputtered out softly, the puffs of her breath much more visible in his line of sight now. “If we do this, we’ll be warm til it starts moving again.”
He definitely wasn’t cold anymore. On the contrary, he felt the heat return to his face almost tenfold. God, he loved it when Yuzu was right.
“O-Okay.”
Yuya wrapped his arms around Yuzu to huddle her in a bit closer, and their shared warmth now brought a flushing wave of heat over her face, the unexpected but very welcome feeling feeding her now rapidly thumping heart. Oh my god, she thought feverishly, this is so nice.
“Hey, Yuzu?” Yuya mumbled slowly. “How long do you think…”
Basking in the comforting haziness of it all, it took Yuzu a moment to understand what he meant this time, but it didn’t seem to matter to him by then either way.
“Ah, …never mind.”
